Abstract

The number of poor people in Maluku Utara in March 2016 reached 74.68 thousand (6.33 percent), reduced by about 5.22 thousand people compared to the poor people in March 2015 which amounted to 79.90 thousand people (6.84 percent) ,
During the period March 2015 - March 2016, the poor in urban areas was reduced one thousand six hundred people (from 12.25 thousand people in March 2015 to 10.58 thousand in March 2016), while in rural areas is reduced by about three thousand five hundred person (from 67.65 thousand people in March 2015 to 64.10 thousand in March 2016).
Percentage of poor people in urban areas by March 2016 at 3.32 percent, down from 3.85 percent in March 2015. Meanwhile, the percentage of poor people in rural areas became 7.44 percent in March 2016 from 7.95 percent in March 2015.
Poverty line rose by 9:44 percent, or about thirty two thousand rupiah, from Rp.344.088, - per capita per month in March 2015 to Rp.376.554, - per capita per month in March 2016. The increase in the poverty line in urban areas amounted to 8.27 percent or about twenty-nine thousand eight hundred rupiah, whereas in rural areas rose 9.91 percent, or about thirty-three thousand five hundred rupiah.
In the period March 2015 - March 2016, the poverty depth index (P1) and poverty severity index (P2) increased slightly, both in urban and rural areas. This indicates that although the number of poor people decreased, but the average expenditure of the poor tend to be further away from the poverty line, and inequality between the poor spending the greater in that period.
